ERICA SCOTT

My art celebrates magic, consumption, and death. I enjoy drawing and painting, people, food, and gore. Recently, I’ve started incorporating retro themes and aesthetics like vapor wave and y2k. Distortion is another theme I heavily employ specifically in my drawings. Ideas that propel some of my art include the disillusioned adult vs the curious youth, inevitability, ephemerality and objectification. I’ve focused a lot on small intimate pieces meant mostly for personal spaces, but my practice is evolving and I’m finding myself spending more time executing bigger ideas that take up more space. Moving forward, I’m hoping to challenge myself with more dynamic approaches angles, material use to the to subject matter while simultaneously inspiring more critical interpretations of “creepy” art and food art. Some of my favorite artists Stephen Gammel, Ivan Albright, Tim Jacobus, Francis Bacon, Wangechi Mutu, Alai Ganuza, and Tjalf Sparnaay.
