CAROLINA ROMO

Carolina Romo is a Chicana mixed media artist, she works in performances, photography, painting, and sculptures. Creating works that revolve around her experience within Mexican American culture, referencing religion and lost traditions. Conceptually taking a critical view of her identity and position within society, she creates a series of hieroglyphics. Her work uses vivid colors, along with a variety of patterns, meant to consume the audience, to fall within its gaze. To fallow the patterns, symbolism which is layered in a journalistic, political perspective. Incorporating recycled materials from the streets of her neighborhood. Encouraging awareness on the harms of global warming, emphasizing the normalization of plastic.

Receiving her bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Columbia College Chicago. Expanding her practices in painting, photography, film, performance, and sculpture. Carolina has done five commercial Murals, along with three community-based murals (2019, 2020, 2022). She has worked with the NYCH art gallery as the gallery’s preparator (2020). Along with volunteering with Project Onwards as an artist assistant (2021). Her work has been exhibited in The Porous Salon (Columbia College Chicago, 2022), along with Dittmar Memorial gallery (Norris Center Northwestern University, 2022). Finally, the co-curator of Alcove exhibited “small works” (2022).
